Find out how you can join us in celebrating Acorn turning 40 by exploring the options below.
In 1983 Bishop Morris Maddocks ended his role as Bishop of Selby and became the Church of England’s first Healing Advisor, and as a result started Acorn to oversee this new ministry. His wife, Anne, chose the name ‘Acorn’, because ‘acorns leave fruit that lasts for hundreds of years’, and thus Acorn was planted and began to grow.
Yes we are 40 - and in this 40th year we are inviting you to celebrate with us all that God has done in our past and all that lies before us in our shared future. Acorn has gone from being based in a residential centre in Hampshire to be planted out in locations around the UK in an expanding network of Healing Hubs. Those who remember, with joy and gratitude, the ministry offered at Whitehill Chase, will be heartened to know that the very same ministry is available through our team of Prayer Ministers in our Healing Hubs. Much has changed in the world since 1983 and so has Acorn, but the values and focus that Bishop Morris gave to us still resonate in a society needing every kind of healing - spirit, soul and body.
Each of the past 40 years is a story of God’s faithfulness to us and also the faithfulness of all those who have served in Acorn to the vision that was passed on to us from Bishop Morris and his wife Anne. Each week we will be putting out a short extract from one of Morris’ books. They are as relevant now as they were then and his wisdom and encouragement are more needed now than then.
You can share with us a 40th birthday message on social media with #Acorn40, or write to us with a story of how you've been blessed by God through Acorn Christian Healing.
You can join us in becoming a monthly supporter in this 40th year (or give a one off gift).
£10 per month - 2 visits to a coffee shop - becomes £150 a year inc. Gift Aid. We would like to find 150 new supporters this year and perhaps there is someone you could ask to join with you on our behalf.
You can host your own coffee morning - invite friends, bring cakes, tell your story of being part of Acorn, take a photo and send it to us for our photo and message wall. Not sure where to start? Let us know and we can help.
You can find '40 Things’ to do and ask your family and friends to sponsor you as a way of making a thanksgiving gift - we can help you out with the ‘how’ - you just need to decide the ‘what’. Your friends and family can donate their sponsorships to our online giving page, and we will share with others what you are doing. You can walk 40
